Our kitchen!

Hello!
It's now the weekend for me {Friday is my study day} so this morning I finally got around to snapping some pictures of our kitchen.
Like the rest of our house, the kitchen is all original 1940's. What does this mean? Well, it means no dishwasher... narrow benches... and a zillion small cupboards.

As usual, we have not changed anything structurally, and there is still no dishwasher, narrow benches, and a zillion cupboards. What we have done is repaint the cupboards inside and out, painted the walls, put new wooden handles on everything (to go with the native timber throughout the house), installed blinds, and thrown in a lot of cuteness and colour.

We would still love to be able to change it more (a dishwasher!) but here it is today:

Before I moved in here (right after our wedding) I always wanted a tea cupboard, where you just keep tea and coffee all neatly laid out... (What, that's not how you get your kicks?)

 We also replaced the horrible old net curtain and hung some timber slatted blinds, along with a little shelf to hold spices etc. This shelf was actually mine when I was a kid and used to be covered in 'Sylvanian families'... don't tell.

We keep a few memories on the fridge ..

And some vintage tins and our cookbooks on top of it. Two of these tins are really old tobacco tins from my grandma, that she kept little tubes of oil paints in and gave to me when I got into art and painting.

See that "blackboard" on the far wall? It was a super quick DIY - I had an empty picture frame that was very old, filled it with black card, and bought a liquid chalk pen (about $5) to write on it. Waaay easier than painting an actual chalkboard, and much less messy to use. 

It's great for shopping lists, or a quote, message, scribble...

Add a couple of things left over from our garden wedding: the pink lemonade sign I painted and straws leftover from the event.
