Design-a-Wedding - Mint and Peach

Sometimes my creativity gets too much for me to handle and I need to design SOMETHING fast.
And sometimes I think back to my own wedding 2 months ago and think "it shouldn't have to be that hard"

...because I did some serious designing for my own wedding, which is like a kind of self-induced hell when you are extreeemely fussy and yet happen to live in New Zealand.

You know, that tiny country in the South Pacific surrounded by ocean, bereft of up-to-date wedding supplies? I spent countless hours trying to track down basic things like square kraft envelopes. There were none.

But probably the worst part of all was making the decisions... I have to choose ONE look?
*kill me now*

Which is why this idea was born: Design-a-Wedding. I've put together the details, and maybe, just maybe, someone out there will find it useful, follow the steps, and create the wedding!

1. To set the scene let's start with the tables.
  • You're going for simple dahlias in mini jam jars, laid across the tables higgeldy piggeldy. You don't need a table runner with there babies.
  • For name cards, these wooden name tags cost about the same as paper ones and are going to be remembered. 10 for $6 from here.
  • Make your Favors work 2 ways - you're going to buy this mint fabric from spoonflower and have fabric napkins made. One will be placed on each plate, with the menu card (if you have one) and heart sticker on top for fun. The guests can take these home (do you reeeeally want 100 napkins at your place?)
If you can't visualise how this will work, here's a quick virtual mockup I threw together in photoshop:

This look is subtle, chic, and timeless - perfect for the no-fuss bride who doesn't want tooo many frills and doilies. It is slightly modern (compared to the extreme vintage look we see a lot these days) but still has a good dose of feminine. Of course, the colour MINT is right on trend too. The flower on the napkin is a nice touch if you can manage it.

Obviously, you are going to look amazing and your hair and dress is a very personal choice! This peach bouquet is going to set everything off - send your florist the picture and see what they can do.
I'd suggest a slightly darker tone of the same thing for the bridesmaids - a few deep oranges will really compliment and contrast with their dresses....

...which are a subtle and chic mint green, from Asos. Free shipping internationally - woop!
If you want the same-but-different look, I would recommend showing your bridesmaids the colour you want and then sending them online to purchase one that they think will suit their shape.

I could go into more detail, such as venue decorations, but I think that's enough for now. I do secretly dream of being a wedding designer - especially for New Zealand brides.
(notice I said designer, not planner. Planning... Eugch ;) )

Just a little weekend fun, right?
Have a great one!

P.S - just for the record, incase you couldn't tell after my little rant, my wedding was the best day of my life and those things like envelopes don't seem a big deal anymore!

  1. Hello! U.S. bride here. I just read your post and can totally relate to the stress that comes along with decision-making for your wedding. I am getting married next April and am struggling to pick a color scheme, none the less, a theme. If I was helping anyone else, I could quickly tell them which theme or color palette looks best.

Since it is now my big day and I only hope to do it once, I am having a hard time. My problem is that I have too many visions... which are wrapped up in too many Pinterest boards (Can you ever really have too many Pinterest boards though?)

I am excited to check out your Design-a-Wedding boards. I am looking forward to narrowing down my vision. Reading your ideas will be a tremendous help.

    Best regards!
    Sarah
